At 225 feet, this condo tower was the Pearl's tallest at the time
of its completion. But height isn't the only thing that makes the Metropolitan stand out. Its gleaming glass, Roman travertine, and white metal panel curtain wall all give it a completely different, more contemporary presence than its boxier, brick-ier neighbors. But is it slender enough to allow sunlight to fall on Tanner Springs Park to the north? BOORA maintained that, by building tall, they could decrease the width of the tower's floor, "minimizing shading on the new public park to the north." Well, okay. But if the sedge grasses start getting sickly, we know whom to blame.
* A four-story "live/work" building of lofts abuts the tower.
